Sacrament of Confirmation

Sacrament of Confirmation

What is Confirmation?

Confirmation is the sacrament that
deepens our baptismal gifts, rooting us
more firmly in our relationship with God
and uniting us more closely with the
mission of the Church. It is traditionally
conferred by the bishop, symbolizing the
broader Church community’s unity
under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
The Sacrament of Confirmation completes our initiation into the Catholic Church. In Baptism, we are reborn as children of God; in the Eucharist, we are nourished by Christ’s Body and Blood; and through Confirmation, we are strengthened by the Holy Spirit to live out our faith more fully in word and action.
Confirmation deepens the grace of Baptism, unites us more closely to Christ, and equips us with the gifts of the Holy Spirit—wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety, and fear of the Lord—so that we may be true witnesses of Christ in the world.

For Youth

Young people preparing for Confirmation typically participate in a period of catechesis and formation. This includes instruction in the faith, opportunities for prayer and service, and regular participation in Sunday Mass. The journey helps candidates recognize their call to discipleship and prepares them to make a mature profession of faith.

Parents and sponsors play an important role in supporting candidates throughout this preparation, serving as examples of Christian living and encouraging them to grow closer to Christ.

For Adults

Adults who have not yet received Confirmation are invited to complete their initiation through parish programs such as RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) or adult faith formation sessions. The Church encourages all baptized Catholics to be confirmed, so that they may fully share in the life of the Spirit and the mission of the Church.
